Weekly Classes
We provide a range of
high quality dance training opportunities at our headquarters
and studios in the West Park Centre, Leeds for 33 weeks of
the year. There are three kinds of activities: the Associate
Programme, Youth Dance Programme and Yorkshire Young Dancer’s
Scheme. Though the focus of these three programmes is different,
it is possible at times for students to switch from one to
the other. All our classes are accompanied by live music,
and are supported by student support staff and child protection
co-ordinators.
Associate
Programme
The Associate
Programme has been running since September
1997 and is aimed at enthusiastic ballet students who study
ballet elsewhere and aim to maximise their potential in ballet
technique. Auditions for this programme are held in May each
year, and students are allocated a place for one year. Assessments
each year determine further years training. An exciting new
addition to the programme is a special boys class. Click on
the Highlighted text for more information. For further details

Towards the end of the academic year
in July 2004, a small group of Associates along with participants
from Northern Ballet Theatre’s Easter Course were given
the opportunity to perform at Dansopolis Community Dance Festival,
organised by Yorkshire Dance Centre.

Eleven Intermediate and Senior Associates
were given the unique opportunity of working with their contemporary
teacher Tony Louis in order to choreograph a piece specially
for Dansopolis. The result “Tous Le Monde” was
an abstract contemporary piece with slight emphasis on togetherness
and exclusion.

Twenty young dancers from Northern
Ballet Theatre and RJC Youth also performed “Crossing”,
a choreography originally devised on Northern Ballet Theatre’s
Easter
Course 2004 that included the young dancers
own movement material and combined the classical and contemporary
dance techniques. With live music performed by Northern Ballet
Theatre’s musician, Richard Kenwood-Herriott, this piece
opened the evening in style.
