David Nixon's Swan Lake is set in New England
at the start of the twentieth century, a time of long, lazy
summers and old world grace. It tells the story of a young,
wealthy college boy who lives with his mother on a luxurious
estate by a lake. In this last summer of innocent youth the
young man finds himself struggling to cope with the transformation
of his relationships with his closest friends, both male and
female.
One night, when staying late by the lake, he
encounters a beautiful swan-like creature, Odette, to whom
he swears undying love. Events reach a climax at his birthday
party when, confused by the advances of his best friend, he
becomes bewitched by the glittering Odilia, setting the inescapable
tragedy of this Swan Lake in motion.
