Public and Community Events

Northern Ballet Theatre offers a wide range of opportunities to find out more about one of our productions or learn more what life in a ballet company is like. Below is a description of the events we offer.

Ballet Explored
Takes place prior to a midweek matinee performance at the theatre. A 30-minute talk is followed by the chance to watch the dancers take their daily ballet class for 30 minutes on stage. Talks are delivered by one of the staff of Northern Ballet Theatre and provide information about the company, the production, touring life and dance education and are often packed with fascinating anecdotes.

Three Musketeers Revealed
This unique event offers members of the public a chance to gain a deeper and richer understanding of the production.

Led by our Artistic Director, David Nixon, and accompanied by the Company dancers, The Three Musketeers Revealed includes both an informative talk and practical demonstration of different aspects of the show. Dancers will be on stage to demonstrate and illustrate movements from the production and it will provide ticket holders with an appreciation of the production at a different level, including an understanding of the making of the show.

Audio described performances
Northern Ballet Theatre is committed to ensuring that ballet is made as accessible to as many people as is possible, and offer a number of audio described performances to accompany our productions. Audio described performances are always preceded by the opportunity to take part in touch tours and workshop specifically designed for those with visual impairments.

Touch tours and workshops for visually impaired patrons
Our touch tours allow a unique opportunity to go onto the stage and explore the sets and costumes before the performance begins, giving a better idea of the stage layout. These are followed by a practical workshop for visually impaired patrons. Designed to enhance and add extra value to the experience of going to the ballet the workshops are created specifically with the needs of visually impaired patrons in mind, and require no previous dance experience.

Community Outreach
We are committed and eager to develop our work in the community in an integrated and inclusive way, so we are always keen to hear from any community groups who would like to work with us on educational activities. We always plan projects with community groups well in advance and ensure they leave a legacy with participants after the project is finished.

Depending on who you are or where you are based, we might be able to raise funds ourselves to work with you, or assist you with your own fundraising.

There are a number of benefits from engaging your community group with Northern Ballet Theatre:

The chance to learn from professional dancers and expert teachers.
The opportunity to combine design, music and dance creatively.
To enrich the lives of groups and individuals by nurturing creativity and instilling self-confidence.
