Northern Ballet Theatre at 40
To celebrate 40 years, Northern Ballet Theatre (NBT), presents a Mixed Programme of stunning dance, highlighting the dramatic, classical and contemporary abilities of this award-winning company. The Northern Ballet Theatre Orchestra will play live at all performances.
As Time Goes By
As Time Goes By conjures up an era of classic glamour as the dancers perform David Nixon's stylish choreography to a selection of timeless songs including Song and As Time Goes By.
Running Time: 40 min followed by 20 min interval
Angels in the Architecture
Premiered in 1992, Angels in the Architecture is set to Aaron Copeland's famous music, Appalachian Spring and is inspired by the life and beliefs of the Shaker people. The choreography is a beautiful and moving tribute to the simple yet spiritually motivated lives they led. The movement complements the American landscape conjured within Copland's magnificent score.
Running Time: 30 min followed by 20 min interval
A Simple Man
Based on Salford born LS Lowry's famous stick men paintings A Simple Man was choreographed by Gillian Lynne (Cats, Phantom of the Opera) and originally premièred in 1987 with the late Christopher Gable (NBT Artistic Director 1989 – 1998) as Lowry. Returning by popular demand, this is a rare opportunity to see these evocative paintings of Northern life brilliantly animated through dance, drama and live music. Televised by the BBC in 1987 (winning a BAFTA for Best TV Arts Programme and an Emmy nomination), A Simple Man is a landmark piece in NBT's history and was instrumental in securing the Company's reputation as the UK's leading narrative dance company.
