Mark Godden Choreographer

Mark Godden, born in the USA and now living in Canada, has created original works for:

Godden is the Permanent Guest Choreographer with the Harid Dance Conservatory and was Resident Choreographer for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (1990-1994).

Many of Godden's ballets have won awards:

  • His Myth and La Princesse et le Soldat, won Top Honors and Silver in the International ballet competitions of Varna, Bulgaria and Helsinki, Finland
  • He is a past recipient of the Choo-San Goh award
  • Godden's full length ballet, Dracula – originally created for Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet and nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore award – was adapted for film (directed by Guy Maddin) winning an Emmy for Best Performing Arts Film
  • The Monaco Film Festival awarded Godden Best Choreography

Mark's second full length ballet, Magic Flute, was made into a film (directed by Barbara Willis Sweete) and won a Gemini for Best Ensemble Performance.

In 2006 Godden had the great honor of representing Canada by directing and choreographing the Canadian portion of the Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies in Torino, Italy. He recently created new ballets for the National Ballet of Mexico, Trionfo di Afrodite, and Ballet Memphis, A Midsummer Night's Dream. This season Mark will create a new Firebird for Ballet Memphis and three new works for Ballet Nouveau de Colorado, Northwest Professional Dance Project and Milwaukee Ballet. He will also be staging works at North Carolina Dance Theater and The Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
