‘I’ve distilled
everything into one single principle: win or die’.
Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Cruel, sexy and funny, this seductive combination of classical
dance and drama is sure to set your pulse racing.
Northern Ballet Theatre’s Dangerous Liaisons is an
immoral tale of the battle between love and virtue - with
a twist of revenge.
An actress narrates the story as it unfolds, letting the
audience get truly caught up in the drama and passion of the
dance. The sumptuous period costumes, elegant dancers and
Vivaldi’s evocative music paint a fabulous picture of
a world where image and reputation are everything and to lose
them can prove fatal.
Les Liaisons Dangereuses was one of the triumphs of 18th
century French literature, edgy, racy and deeply cynical.
David Nixon’s ballet version draws on this scandalous
novel of letters as well as being inspired by the 1988
film, staring Glenn Close and John Malkovich.
The story has also inspired other interpretations from another
ballet by Adam
Cooper to the 1999 teen movie adaptation Cruel
Intentions.
