Classical Training Programmes
More than 120 young dancers are currently training on the various Classical Training Programmes held each week at Northern Ballet Theatre’s headquarters at West Park, Leeds.
All training programmes are directly informed by International teacher Yoko Ichino’s unique approach to teaching ballet technique, which she developed over many years in North America and Europe. Working from a holistic approach that includes detailed attention to the individual needs of each dancer, the technique centres purely on the development of a healthy dancer with correct alignment through a combination of body conditioning and release-based exercises specially geared to develop strength and placement.
Under the leadership of Yoko Ichino and the teaching faculty all young dancers work to further strengthen their classical technique in an atmosphere that is centred on individual learning. This unique experience will have a significant impact on the artistic and technical development of the dancer.
Northern Ballet Theatre became a Centre for Advanced Training in 2003 and the Classical Training Department is ever expanding. We now have classes suiting every age, ability and experience from our intensive pre-vocational training programme, to our enhancement associate programme, to our open classes and Introduction to Ballet programme. All training takes place at Northern Ballet Theatre’s head quarters in Leeds where students have the opportunity to see the company at work and share the dancers studio space.
