The Dancers Arrive in Bangkok

14 September, 2007

John Pryce-Jones and I enjoyed the performance of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra last night. The programme included Dvorak's New World Symphony, Schubert's Unfinished Symphony and the Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 by Liszt. John commented “I was particularly delighted with the richness and warmth of the strings and it was pleasing to hear a Hungarian Orchestra playing their National Music.” After the concert John and I had dinner with the Maestro – Hungarian Conductor, Adam Medveczky and our host Mr Uberoi and his wife Damira in a Vietnamese restaurant.

The saga of my favourite subject continues with our Moving Lights arriving in Bangkok this afternoon but unlikely that customs will release them until Friday morning. Fortunately they are pre-programmed, so should be up over the stage at the 11th hour and ready for the Technical Rehearsal that afternoon.

Today we have torrential rain to herald the arrival of the dancers! I am told that this is the worst rain they have had in Bangkok for 25 years. It has come from Vietnam and is expected to last for 3 days!! – Maybe we shouldn't have eaten in the Vietnamese restaurant last night!! Not good news for the dancers who have one free day tomorrow to explore Bangkok. We are planning a trip to the Royal Palace and Wat Pho but it is not likely to be so much fun in the rain.

The company arrived safely and all reported a pleasant flight. Two suitcases appear to have been left in Vienna so Company Manager, John Duncan and Dancer, Andrew Barker, not so happy. We are told they will arrive tomorrow.

I am pleased to say that all is going according to plan at the theatre. This evening the dancers are invited to dinner at the home of the Promoter, Mr Uberoi.
